Nikà is an estate in Pantelleria, owned by Nicolò Mascheroni Stianti of the Castello di Volpaia. Nicolò, after his experience in the cellars of Pol Roger Champagne, has always had the dream to produce a great Italian sparkling wine. He has chosen his Pinot noir from the best vineyard in Oltrepo’ Pavese and created his secret receipt for a unique liqueur d’expedition based on Zibibbo di Pantelleria.
In love with Pantelleria
He works in the publishing business in Milan where he has participated to the launch of MSNBC and The Weather Channel in Italy. Passionate about wine, his family owns the Castello di Volpaia in Radda in Chianti and the Prelius Estate in Maremma Toscana. He has worked at Pol Roger Champagne where he fell in love with "bubbles".
Radda in Chianti
Since 1172 Volpaia i land of renown organic Chianti Classicos. Listed in the Wine Spectator's TOP100 Volpaia is known all over the world for the beauty of its restored walled village. Volpaia has 4 villas and 5 apartments for rent, organizes cookery classes and tastings.
In the hilly amphitheatre of the Tuscan Maremma rising above the ancient coastal lake the Romans called Prelius and overlooking the shimmering waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, 90.769 vines still flourish, organically farmed by Federica Mascheroni Stianti who produces a Cabernet sauvignon and a Vermentino. At Prelius it's also possible to rent two beautiful villas.
A dry sparkling wine, elegant and complex, characterized by freshly citrus notes and aromas of toasty bread, nuts, dried fruit and rose. Fine and persistent perlage. Long finish with flowery and spicy notes.
Gently press red grapes and let them ferment without their skins and you get a white wine from red grapes. Great Champagne, in fact, are made of two red grapes (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier) and one white variety (Chardonnay).
The bubbles of great Champagne and Metodo Classico sparkling wines are born in the bottle. This is the great difference with a Prosecco who's produced in an autoclave and misses the elegance of aging on the yeasts.
before leaving the aging cellar a “liqueur” is added in each bottle of Champagne, the “liqueur d’expedition”. In this liqueur is hidden the soul of Pantelleria. Download the Bollicine di Nika's facts sheet.
We've chosen this arabic word because we believe that Pantelleria is the “daughter of the wind”. Pantelleria is located in the middle of the Sicilian Straight, closer to Tunisia than to Italy. The Sicilian Straight it’s known for its gusting winds, in particular the Maestrale (blowing from Noth-West) and the Scirocco, a warm wind coming from South-East. Wind blows in Pantelleria for about 337 days in a year and it shapes its vegetation, agriculture and life.
It’s a tiny cove on the South-West coast of Pantelleria, renown for its underwater thermal springs and for its beautiful dammusi Nikà with an astonishing view on the sunset over Tunisia.
Here you can find the dammusi Nikà where our sparkling wine is born as the bubbles rise over the sea from the submarine thermal springs.
Nikà-Nikà was also the exclamation “Win! Win!” during the chariot races in the ancient Costantinopole (today's Istanbul) in DC 500.
The so called "Nika' riots" started in Costantinopole in 532 after some ultras were executed. Read the story on wikipedia.
